. Revision of published data on species diversity of marine nematode assemblages indicated significantly higher values in temperate coastal sediments than in tropical open sea and lagoonal sublittoral sediments of similar depth. The influence of sample size, mean grain size, latitude. degree of isolation and stability of the system arc discussed for 112 temperate samples and 85 tropical samples from 23 localities around the world.
