Summary A review is made of the nominal species of Discolaimus Cobb, 1913. Discolaimus major of Andrássy (1959) from Rumania has been renamed D. perplexans n. sp. because it differs from D. major Thorne, 1939, in many characters especially in having a spear which is shorter than head‐width and whose aperture measures more than half its length. From India four species of Discolaimus have been described and illustrated. These include two new species, D. brevis and D. tenax , and two known species, D. major Thorne, 1939, and D. similis Thorne, 1939. These species have been collected from soil around roots of plants and trees in various localities of North India. A differential key to various species of Discolaimus is provided at the end of the work. Zusammenfassung Studien über die Gattung Discolaimus (Nematoda: Dorylaimidae ) aus Indien. Ein Überblick über die bisher beschriebenen Arten von Discolaimus wird gegeben. Dabei war es notwendig für eine von Andássy zu Discolaimus major Thorne geatellte Form wegen des abweichenden Baues des Bohrstachels eine neue Art Discolaimus perplexans zu begründen. Beschrieben werden vier indische Arten von Discolaimus; zwei davon D. brevis und D. tenax sind neu, zwei weitere, D. major Thorne und D. similis Thorne bereits bekannt. Alle wurden in Erde in der Umgebung der Wurzeln von Kulturpflanzen gefunden. Abschließend wird ein Bestimmungsschlüssel für alle bisher bekannten Discolaimus‐ Arten vorgelegt.
