From 1989 to 1992 populations of Pyrenophora teres from Russia. Germany. Czech Republic and Slovakia were studied to determine their structure. and to develop a barley differential set for potential international use. The infection responses were scored on a 5‐point reaction scale using detached leaf pieces incubated on filter paper saturated with a aquaeos benzimidazole solution. A set of 12 differentials. incorporated under 4 digits using the octal nomenclature, was identified and is presented.
