Shoots, callus or tumor tissues of N. tabacum have been grafted to stock plants of different species of Solanaceae. The graft compatibility ranges of the three grafted tissue types were different. For example; shoots of N. tabacum united easily with root‐stocks of Lycopersicum esculencum. Tumors of the same variety of N. tabacum transformed by different strains of Agrobacterium tumefaciens did not produce transplantation tumors on L. esculentum. These results are discussed with respect to recognition events at the graft contact zone.
