For in vitro and glasshouse studies, mass production of conidia of Venturia inaequalis is essential. A wick culture technique utilising ordinary muslin cloth in 250 ml prescription bottles wetted in 4 % malt extract medium and maintained at 18 ± 2°C for 21 days in darkness produced abundant conidia and proved superior to other methods.
