A serious fungal disease causing dieback symptoms on cherry tree was observed in the period 1982–86 in different locations of Greece. Isolations from affected branches yielded consistently the fungus Phialophora parasitica. Pathogenicity tests carried out on cherry, apricot, olive and peach trees showed that the pathogen was capable to induce disease symptoms on all these fruit trees.
