The sensitivity of Plasmopara ‐isolates to metalaxyl was determined by a leaf disc test. For the first time this permitted the distinction and clear characterization of not only sensitive and resistant isolates but also of isolates belonging to a third type of sensitivity, termed the reduced sensitive type.
