Botryodiplodia theobromae Pat. forms chlamydospores and specialised hyphae in diseased yam tissues in which condition it tides over unfavourable periods. With favourable conditions the chlamydospores germinate and the specialised hyphae formed serve as sources of infection to new hosts and infect through wounds. Germination tubes infect by means of terminal appressoria, and nutrition within the host is effected by production of haustoria.
