On the morphology of the alimentary tract of some fishes from Khor al‐Zubair, Northwest Arabian Gulf, Iraq 1

Summary The morphology of the alimentary tract, the relative gut length, mouth characteristics and dentition of 23 marine demersal fish species were studied, based on samples taken in Khor al‐Zubair waters, Northwest Arabian Gulf. The food habitats of each are described. Four distinct groups were distinguished based on the morphology of the alimentary tract, food habits and dentition. Résumé La morphologie de l'appareil digestif de poissons de Khor al‐Zubair, au nord‐ouest du Golfe Arabique La morphologie de l'appareil digestif, la longueur relatives des intestins, les caractéristiques buccales et la dentition de 23 espèces de poissons marins démersaux ont fait l'objet d'une étude réalisiéà partir d'échantillons prélevés dans les eaux de Khor al‐Zubair, au nord‐ouest du Golfe Arabique. Les modes alimentaires de chacune des espèces ont été décrits. Quatre groupes onr été identifiés à partir de la morphologie de l'appareil digestif, du mode alimentaire et de la dentition. Zusammenfassung Über die Morphologie des Verdauungstraktes einiger Fische aus Khor al‐Zubair, nordwestlicher Golf von Arabien, Irak Die Morphologie des Verdauungstraktes, die relative Darmlänge, und die Charakteristika des Maules und der Bezahnung wurden bei 23 marinen, demersalen Fischarten untersucht. Die Proben wurden in den Gewässern von Khor al‐Zubair im nordwestlichen Arabischen Golf genommen. Die Nahrungsgewohnheiten jeder Art werden beschrieben. Basierend auf der Morphologie des Verdauungstraktes, der Nahrungsgewohnheiten und der Bezahnung Iießen sich vier getrennte Gruppen unterscheiden.
