The total progeny yielded by the female Lysiphlebus delhiensis parasitising third instar nymphs of the aphid Melanaphis sacchari on Zea mays decreased with parental aging mainly because of reduced female survival. The offspring sex ratio (proportion of males) favoured the females when the parents were younger (sex ratio = 0.4), but favoured male (sex ratio = 0.55) when the parents were older (96–108 h old). The parental age, particularly female age, has important consequences for progeny production, their survival and offspring sex ratio.
