Evaluation of some formulations of Nosema marucae for the control of Chilo partellus (Lep., Pyralidae)

Four formulations of Nosema marucae were tested on Chilo partellus infesting sorghum. Foliar sprays of an aqueous spore suspension and an aqueous 10 % molasses formulation, both of which were applied with knapsack sprayers, gave a higher level of protection against borers than a mill dust meal applied inside the leaf whorl in a granular formulation, or a preparation with a sand carrier. Zusammenfassung Zur Eignung von Nosema marucae‐Formulierungen für eine biologische Bekämpfung von Chilo partellus (Lep., Pyralidae) Vier Formulierungen mit Nosema marucae ‐Sporen wurden zur Bekämpfung der Larven von Chilo partellus in Sorghum‐Feldern getestet. Am besten wirkten mit dem Knapsack‐Sprayer eine auf die Blätter ausgebrachte Spurensuspension sowie eine wäßrige Molasse (10 %)‐Formulierung. Deutlich darunter lag die Wirkung von Sporenpräparaten, welche Mehl oder Sand als Trägerstoffe hatten.
