The rearing of Tipula oleracea L. (Dipt., Tipulidae)

A convenient rearing method for Tipula oleracea is described. It was possible to produce five to six generations a year and to provide a constant source of larvae for experiments. The eggs are incubated on water‐agar and larvae are reared in moist sand and fed on lettuce. Data on the developmental time, the head capsule width, the mortality and the food uptake of the larvae are given. Zusammenfassung Die Zucht von Tipula oleracea L. (Dipt., Tipulidae) Es wird eine einfache Zuchtmethode für Tipula oleracea beschrieben, die es ermöglicht, fünf bis sechs Generationen im Jahr zu produzieren und kontinuierlich Larven für Experimente zur Verfügung zu haben. Die Eier von T. oleracea werden auf Wasseragar inkubiert und die Larven in feuchtem Sand aufgezogen. Als Futter dienen Salatblätter. Entwicklungszeit, Kopfkapselbreite, Mortalität und Futteraufnahme der Larven sind angegeben.
