Life‐history parameters of Gonatocerus cincticipitis Sahad (Hym., Mymaridae), an egg parasitoid of the green rice leafhopper, Nephotettix cincticeps Uhler (Hom., Cicadellidae)

The effects of temperature on some of the life cycle parameters of Gonatocerus cincticipitis were studied in a rearing experiment at constant temperatures, 20, 24, 28, and 32°C under 16L‐8D. Adults at 20°C survived significantly longer than those at other temperatures, but there was no significant difference at 24, 28, and 32°C. The fecundity at 32°C was significantly lower than that at other temperatures, but again, no significant differences were seen at 20, 24, and 28°C. Life cycle parameters also were calculated and compared. The intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) and capacity for increase (r c ) rose when the temperature was raised. These results are discussed from the standpoint of the parasitoid's capability as a natural enemy of N. cincticeps.Zusammenfassung Über Lebensablauf‐Parameter bei Gonatocerus cincticipitis Sah. (Hym., Mymaridae), einem Ei‐Parasitoiden der Grünen Reiszikade, Nephotettix cincticeps Uhler (Hom., Cicadellidae) Es wurden die Auswirkungen konstanter Temperaturen (20, 24, 28, 32°C) bei 16 Stunden Tageslichtperiode auf einige Lebenszyklus‐Parameter von G. cincticipitis untersucht. Die Adulten lebten bei 20°C länger als bei anderen Temperaturen, doch gab es zwischen den Stufen 24, 28 und 32°C keine signifikanten Unterschiede. Die Vermehrungsrate (r m ) und die Vermehrungskapazität (r c ) erhöhten sich mit der Temperatur. Diese Ergebnisse werden im Lichte der Bedeutung des Parasitoiden als natürlicher Feind von N. cincticeps diskutiert.
