Capture of Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Col., Bostrichidae) with Dominicalure multifunnel traps and considerations on trapping of non target species: Sitophylus oryzae L., Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) and Colydium castaneum (Herbst)

Observations on the behaviour of Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), Sitophylus oryzae L., Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens), and Colydium castaneus (Herbst) in the presence of dominicalure multifunnel traps placed in a cereal warehouse are reported. The factors considered are the role of the synthetic Dominicalure on non target species, the effect of silhouette on trapping efficiency, and the influence of the position of the trap in more or less lighted areas of the store‐room. For R. dominica the orientation toward the traps is mediated by both chemical and visual cues; regarding S. oryzae, C. ferrugineus , and C. castaneum visual cues play a primary role in the orientation of these insects toward the multifunnel traps. These responses indicate that the prolonged silhouette of the trap could be a relict of an ancient behaviour pattern from the open field. Zusammenfassung Zum Einsatz von Mehr‐Trichterfallen und Dominicalure gegen Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Col., Bostrichidae) und Beobachtungen über die Beifänge von Sitophylus oryzae L., Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) und Colydium castaneum (Herbst) Es wird über Verhaltensstudien an Rhyzopertha dominica, Sitophylus oryzae, Cryptolestes ferrugineus und Colydium castaneum berichtet, die in Getreidelagerräumen, in welchen Mehrfach‐Trichterfallen ‐ mit Dominicalure bestückt ‐ aufgestellt wurden, durchgeführt wurden. Folgende Faktoren wurden untersucht: Wirkung des synthetischen Lockstoffs Dominicalure auf Nicht‐Zielorganismen sowie Bedeutung der Fallensilhouette und des Aufstellungsortes auf die Fangleistung. R. dominica reagierte sowohl auf chemische als auch optische Reize der Falle; für S. oryzae, C. ferrugineus und C. castaneum ist der optische Reiz bedeutsamer. Diese Untersuchungen zeigen, daß die optische Reaktion auf die Falle vermutlich ein reliktes Verhaltensmuster ist, das aus einer Zeit stammt, als die untersuchten Arten noch überwiegend im Freiland auftraten.
