Comparison of Beauveria bassiana effect in Trichiocampus viminalis (Fall.) (Hym., Tenthredinidae) larvae under two types of laboratory conditions

The hairy poplar sawfly, Trichiocampus viminalis is one of serious defoliators of poplars. The pathogenicity of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. to larvae of the species were examined by laboratory tests. By comparison under two different kinds of conditions it was found that larvae of this insect pest are susceptible to infection and that exist difference in larval mortality according to the change of environmental conditions. Mortality caused by the fungus reached 29% under variable conditions and 40% under constant and more artificial laboratory conditions during 15 days. The possibilities of incidental using B. bassiana against T. viminalis in the field are discussed. Zusammenfassung Vergleich der Wirkung von Beauveria bassiana auf Larven von Trichiocampus viminalis (Fall.) (Hym., Tenthredinidae) unter verschiedenen Bedingungen Es wurde die Wirkung von Beauveria bassiana auf Larven von Trichiocampus viminalis unter Laborbedingungen untersucht. Während die Mortalität der Larven bei wechselnden Temperatur‐ und Luftfeuchtigkeitsbedingungen 15 Tage nach der Applikation 29% erreichte, lag sie bei höherer Luftfeuchtigkeit und höherer, konstanter Temperatur bei 40%. Die Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes von B. bassiana im Freiland werden diskutiert.
