Distribution and activity of Paralipsa gularis (Zeller) (Lep., Galleriidae) in Italy 1

Results of research on distribution and activity of Paralipsa gularis (Zeller) in Italy are reported. The insect appears to be undergoing a phase of expansion; this should arouse concern, above all if it's kept in mind that the area dedicated to the growing of corn (the species seems well‐adapted to stored corn) is vaster than that dedicated to rice. Moreover P. gularis is able to move to other foodstuffs, not only in the storerooms of agricultural companies, but anywhere foodstuffs are stored. Another item to note is the preference of the larvae of this species for wheat, with high percentage of emergent adults (80%–89%), which is greater than that noted for corn (50 %) and rice (15%). Zusammenfassung Zur Verbreitung und Aktivität von Paralipsa gularis (Zeller) (Lep., Galleriidae) in Italien Die vorliegenden Untersuchungsergebnisse zur Verbreitung und Aktivität von Paralipsa gularis ergaben, daß sich diese Art in Italien in einer Phase zunehmender räumlicher Ausdehnung befindet. Dies sollte vor allem in Hinblick auf die weitere Ausdehung der Getreideanbaugebiete, deren Ausweitung schneller verläuft als diejenige der Reisanbaugebiete, beachtet werden, da P. gularis offensichtlich eine gut an Getreide angepaßte Art ist. Darüber hinaus befällt P. gularis auch andere Nahrungsmittel, nicht nur in Getreidesilos, sondern überall wo Nahrungsmittel gelagert werden. Die Larven von P. gularis bevorzugen Weizen; hier beträgt das Schlüpfprozent der Larven 80–89% und ist damit höher als bei Korn (50%) und Reis (15%).
