Isolation of insect antifeedant alkaloids from Maytenus rigida (Celastraceae)

The stepwise extraction and bioassay methods for isolation of the potent antifeedant wilforine from Maytenus rigida is described. The antifeedant activity is greatest with the cruciferivorous Pieris rapae and the graminivorous Locusta migratoria , less with the more polyphagous feeders, and negligible with Schistocerca gregaria.Zusammenfassung Isolation eines fraßhemmenden Alkaloids aus Maytenus rigida (Celastraceae) Es werden die stufenweise Extraktion und die biologischen Untersuchungsmethoden zur Isolation des fraßhemmenden Alkaloids Wilforin aus Maytenus rigida beschrieben. Die fraßhemmende Aktivität ist am stärksten bei dem cruciferenfressenden Pieris rapae und der grasfressenden Locusta migratoria , weniger stark bei einigen mehr polyphagen Schädlingen sowie unbedeutend bei Schistocerca gregaria.
