The susceptibility of the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.), to different isolates of nuclear polyhedrosis virus

Two isolates of NPV were compared in regard to their effectiveness on S. littoralis larvae: a nonspecific NPV isolated from Autographa californica in USA and a specific NPV, isolated from S. littoralis in Morocco. The results show that S. littoralis responds readily to its specific NPV of different sources and acts hardly as alternate host to NPV of A. californica . Zusammenfassung Über die Empfindlichkeit der Baumwolleule, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.), gegenüber zwei Isolaten eines Kernpolyedrose‐Virus Es wurden 2 Isolate von NPV hinsichtlich ihrer Wirkung auf S.‐littoralis ‐Raupen getestet: ein nichtspezifisches NPV, isoliert aus Autographa californica in den USA, sowie ein spezifisches NPV, isoliert aus S. littoralis in Marokko. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß S. littoralis leicht auf seine spezifische Polyedrose, aber schwer auf die aus der Alphalphaeule, Autographa californica , in Amerika gewonnene Polyedrose reagiert.
