Biological control of Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae) in Ghana

Lantana camara L. has been controlled in restricted areas of the forest zone of Ghana by some of its insect natural enemies introduced from Trinidad, India and Australia in 1971–1973. The Tingid Teleonemia scrupulosa Stål and the two Hispids Octotoma scabripennis Guérin and Uroplata girardi Pic were successfully established, the Tingid Leptobyrsa decora Drake and the Noctuid Diastema tigris Guenée were released but not recovered. Indigenous species associated with L. camara were recorded. Zusammenfassung Zur biologischen Bekämpfung von Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae) in Ghana Zur Bekämpfung von Lantana camara L. im Waldgebiet von Ghana wurden von 1971 bis 1973 die natürlichen Insektenfeinde dieses Unkraut‐Strauches von Trinidad, Indien und Australien eingeführt. Teleonemia scrupulosa Stål (Tingidae), Octotoma scabripennis Guérin und Uroplata girardi Pic (Hispidae) wurden erfolgreich angesiedelt, Leptobyrsa decora Drake (Tingidae) und Diastema tigris Guanée (Noctuidae) wurden freigelassen, konnten aber nicht dauerhaft angesiedelt werden. In begrenzten Arealen wurde ein guter Bekampfungserfolg erzielt. Einheimische Insektenarten, vergesellschaftet mit L. camara , werden angeführt.
