Effects of some antimycotics and disinfectants on the Ascosphaera apis Maassen fungus in vitro

A bee brood disease, called chalk brood , is caused by Ascosphaera apis Maassen. In the last decade this fungus disease spread all over the western and northern Europe and it is spread also in Czechoslovakia. In apicultural practise, the disease was eliminated by removing the combs with infected brood so far. With infectious spread of the chalk brood, however, these measures proved to be little effective. In several laboratory experiments we tested 24 disinfectants and antimycotics against Ascosphaera fungus, for the most part currently used in the human and veterinary medicine. As for antiseptics, formalin, Ajatin and salicylic acid showed a good effectiveness, of antimycotics Lastanox, Nystatin and Nitrofungin; of preservatives paraben and of other substances propolis and allylisothiocyanate (AITK). Zusammenfassung Wirkungen einiger Antimycotics und Desinfectants gegen den Erreger der Kalkbrut der Honigbiene Ascosphaera apis Maassen in vitro Eine Bienenkrankheit, die sogen. Kalkbrut, wird von A. apis verursacht. Im letzten Jahrzehnt hat sich dieser Pilz über das ganze westliche und nördliche Europa einschließlich der ČSSR verbreitet. In der Bienenzucht wurde diese Krankheit bisher durch Vernichtung der befallenen Waben bekämpft. Um eine bessere Methode zu finden, wurden in Laborexperimenten 24 Desinfectants und Antimycotics gegen den Pilz getestet, von denen die meisten Wirkstoffe in der Human‐ und Veterinärmedizin gebraucht werden. Es zeigten gute Wirksamkeit die Antiseptics Formalin, Ajatin und Salicylsäure ‐ die Antimycotics Lastanox, Nystatin und Nitrofungin ‐ und das Vorbeugungsmittel Paraben sowie von anderen Substanzen Propolis und Allylisothiocyanate (AITK).
