Pseudo‐juvenilizing action of Dursban and Temik against pupae of the Mediterranean Fruit Fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wied.)

A bioassay for Dursban and Temik activity in pupae of Ceratitis capitata was developed, in order to compare the morphogenetic activity of these compounds after topical application. Both insecticides evoked a high magnitude of pseudo‐juvenilizing action. Results indicate that adults categorized in scores from zero to 4 survived only to two days. The pupae were sensitive to both materials during the pupation period and this sensitivity was decreased as the pupal‐adult apolysis was progressed. All the previous observations were found in both topical and soil treatments. Zusammenfassung Wirkungen der Juvenoide Dursban und Temik auf die Mittelmeer‐Fruchtfliege Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) Es wurden Untersuchungen über die morphogenetischen Wirkungen von Dursban und Temik auf C. capitata nach topikaler Applikation bei den Puppen durchgeführt. Beide Substanzen zeigten in hohem Maße juvenilisierende Eigenschaften. Aus behandelten Puppen schlüpfende Fliegen lebten höchstens 2 Tage. Die Puppen erwiesen sich als empfindlidi gegenüber beiden Substanzen, wobei die Empfindlichkeit mit fortschreitendem Entwicklungsstand der Puppen abnahm. Gleiche Ergebnisse wurden beobachtet, wenn die hormonoiden Substanzen dem Boden beigemischt wurden, in welchem die Puppen lagen.
