Effects of dietary zinc sulphate on the growth and feeding behaviour of Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn. (Lep., Pyraustidae)

Zinc sulphate at the concentrations of 0.1–0.4% supplemented to artificial diet reduced the growth and development of larvae of Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn. The effects were evaluated by body length, head capsule width and by weight of larvae. Similarly, this salt acted as feeding deterrent to the larvae at 0.1% concentration. Zusammenfassung Zur Wirkung von Zinksulfat auf das Wachstum und die Entwicklung von Ostrinia nubilalis (Lep. Pyraustidae) bei Hinzufügung zu künstlicher Diät Zinksulfat‐Konzentrationen zwischen 0,1% und 0,4%, die einer künstlichen Diät zugefügt wurden, verminderten das Wachstum und die Entwicklung der Larven von Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn. Die Wirkung wurde auf die Körperlänge, die Kopfkapselbreite und das Larvengewicht bezogen. Das Salz zeigte auch einen fraßabschreckenden Effekt auf die Larven, selbst bei einer Konzentration von nur 0,1%.
