A total of 153 adult specimens of Buprestidae and 15 of Othniidae were caught in 40 metre‐square sticky traps over a 25‐day period in a Hoop Pine plantation in Papua New Guinea. 7 species of Buprestidae and 1 of Othniidae were represented. Among the most common species there was either a preponderance of males ( Anilara sp. v. nr. viridula Kerremans) or females ( A. funebris Deyrolle). The buprestid A. funebris accounted for the majority, 54.2%, of specimens collected. Most, 78.4% of the Buprestidae and 84.4% of the Othniidae, were captured during the day. Greater numbers of adults were captured in the traps around the more exposed trees and least were obtained from those around the trees furthest from the roadside. There was no noticeable directional flight response during the day, but at night noticeably fewer adults flew in a southerly direction.
