Loss of water in the larvae of Achaea janata (L.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) treated with insecticides

The effect of 1% of DDT, Rogor, Ekatox, Endrin, Baygon, Sumithion, Meta‐systox, DDVP, Dipterex, Di‐syston, and Thiodan on the weight and water loss of Achaea Janata (L.)‐larvae (8, 12 and 16 days old) with different doses (viz., 170 and 250 μmg per larva) were studied. 8‐days old larvae looses more weight than 12 and 16 days old. Water loss was influenced by age. Treated larvae excreted a greater amount of excreta and lose water faster than control and normal test. Zusammenfassung Wasserverlust bei Larven von Acbaea Janata (L.) (Lepid., Noctuidae) nach Behandlung mit Insektiziden Es wurde die Wirkung von l%igem DDT, Rogor, Ekatox, Endrin, Baygon, Sumithion, Meta‐systox, DDVP, Dipterex, Di‐syston und Thiodan in Dosen von 170 und 250 μmg/Larve auf das Gewicht und den Wassergehalt von 8, 12 und 16 Tage alte Larven von A. janata untersucht. Die jüngsten Larven verloren mehr an Gewicht und Wasser als die älteren. Behandelte Larven schieden mehr Exkrete und Wasser aus als unbehandelte.
