Certain compounds, synthesized in the Chemical Research Division of P.C.S.I.R. Laboratories, Karachi were tested for their antifertility effects on a pure strain of Aedes aegypti (L.), being reared in the Pesticide Section of P.C.S.I.R. Laboratories. The tests indicated that 4 compounds are better sterilants than others. Among them 1,1‐azobiscyclohexylnitrile at a dose of 5 ppm; malonamide, n‐valeramide and β ‐dimethylaminopropiohenone hydrochloride at a dose of 10 ppm produced considerable sterility. N‐skatylbenzimidazole, p‐nitrophenyl‐ β ‐dimethylaminopropionic acid, 3,6‐dichloro‐4‐methylpyridazine, 1,1‐azocyanocyclohexane, 4‐methyl‐6‐chloro‐3‐pyridazinone and 2‐aminoethylsulphuric acid at a dose of 10 ppm and 3,4,5‐trimethylbenzamide and caproamide at a dose of 100 ppm were less effective than others. Thiourea was used for comparing the antifertility effect.
