Seasonal fluctuations in the population of insect fauna in flour mills

The monthly population of the insect fauna of flour mills was studied over an annual cycle. The insect species were recorded, these were Rhizopertha dominica Fab., Tribolium confusum Duv., Ephestia kuehniella Zell., Laemophloeus testacus, Tenebroides mauritanicus L., Sitophilus oryzae L., Tenebrio syriacus Zouf., Alphitobius laevigatus F., Alphitobius diaperinus Panz., Sitophilus granarius L. These species were found in the wheat grains brought to the mill, wastes resulting from the milling process and the webbed flour clogging the pipes of the machinery. The density at different seasons as well as the micro and macro‐climatic conditions were investigated. Zusammenfassung Jahreszeitliche Veränderungen der Insektenfauna in Mühlen Es wurde die monatliche Population der Insektenfauna von Mehlmühlen über ein Jahr untersucht. An Insektenarten wurden gefunden: Rhizopertha dominica Fab., Tribolium confusum Duv., Ephestia kuehniella Zell., Laemophloeus testacus, Tenebroides mauritanicus L., Sitophilus oryzae L., Tenebrio syriacus Zouf., Alphitobius laevigatus F., Alphitobius diaperinus Panz., Sitophilus granarius L. Diese Arten besiedelten entweder das zur Mühle gebrachte Getreide, Abfälle aus dem Mahlprozeß sowie Rückstände und Gespinste in der Maschinerie. Die Dichte der Arten zu verschiedenen Jahreszeiten sowie die mikro‐ und makroklimatischen Bedingungen wurden festgestellt.
