Experimental Studies on Tomato Pests

Two experiments were carried out at Alexandria Province to evaluate the effect of Sevin, Dipterex, Roxion, Anthio, Lebaycid, Trithion, Zolone, Guthion, Malathion and Folimat in controlling the green peach aphids, the cotton thrips, the tomato white fly, the potato leaf hopper and the potato tuberworm, also their effect on tomato yield. Folimat, Trithion, Lebaycid, Roxion, Anthio and Zolone gave good results in controlling the green peach aphids, tomato white flies, cotton thrips, potato leaf hoppers and poor results against potato tuberworm except for Zolone. In addition Sevin and Guthion were the most effective insecticides on the potato tuberworm, while they gave poor results against the rest pests. Plants treated with Sevin, significantly outyielded the check, while all the rest treatments, also, outyielded the check without significant differences. Zusammenfassung Experimentelle Untersuchungen über Tomatenschädlinge. I. Wirkungen einiger Pestizide auf Tomatenschädlinge in der U.A.R. Zwei Experimente in der Provinz Alexandria sollten Aufschluß geben über die Wirkungen von Sevin, Dipterex, Roxion, Anthio, Lebaycid, Trithion, Zolone, Guthion, Malathion und Folimat sowohl auf die Schadinsekten (grüne Pfirsich‐Blattlaus, Baumwoll‐Thrips, Tomaten‐Schildmotte, Kartoffelblattfloh und Kartoffelmotte) als auch auf den Tomaten‐Ertrag. Folimat, Trithion, Lebaycid, Roxion, Anthio und Zolone zeigten gute Ergebnisse bei der Bekämpfung von Blattlaus, Tomaten‐Schildmotte, Baumwoll‐Thrips sowie Kartoffel‐Blattfloh, dagegen unbefriedigende Resultate gegen die Kartoffelmotte (mit Ausnahme von Zolone). Gegen letzteren Schädling waren Sevin und Guthion am wirksamsten, während ihre Wirkung gegen die übrigen Schädlinge nicht ausreichte. Mit Sevin behandelte Pflanzen hatten einen signifikant höheren Ertrag als die Kontroll‐pflanzen, während alle restlichen Mittel den Ertrag zwar ebenfalls, jedoch nicht signifikant, erhöhten.
