Experiments were conducted in field in 1965, and 1966 to evaluate six systemic and non‐systemic soil insecticides, applied to the soil or to the seed, against T. tabaci infesting cotton seedlings. By comparing the mean percentages of effectiveness of each soil insecticide by using the Z 2 in r × 2 method, Thimet and Di‐syston surpassed the other insecticides at the two rates and at the two seasons when they were used as seed treatment. Lindane at low dosage in 1965 had the weakest effect but at the double dosage it had a good effect in controlling thrips. Trithion showed effectiveness at low dosage and less effective at double dosage in 1965 but in 1966 nearly the same effect was obtained with the two dosages. Heptachlor and DDT were close together in 1965 and varied at the season of 1966.
