Summary The house fly Musca domestica L. is an unsuitable laboratory host for the Braconide Aphaereta pallipes Say., which attacks in the field Hylemya antiqua Meig. Only in maximal 55 % of the house flies parasitoids developed. The susceptibility of the flies was changed with the quality of its food. House flies reared on a locally produced bran‐alfalfa‐medium proved to be completely unsuitable for the development of A. pallipes . Additions of Cottage Cheese to this food mixture or the breeding of flies on a chemical defined diet considerably decreased parasitoid mortality.
