Summary The cytoplasm of the spermathecal epithelium of the queen honeybee shows already quite early particular hyaline corpuscles, that grow with progressing age very quickly in number and size. By means of histochemical reactions could be profed that these formations consist of amyloid. This amyloid degeneration of the spermathecal epithelium ‐ disclosed for the first time at an insect ‐ may possibly be of essential importance for the premature and due to age drone‐laying of mated queens.
