Summary The mitosporic fungus Chalara fraxinea ( Ascomycota ) is associated with dieback of common ash, an emerging disease of Fraxinus excelsior ( Oleaceae ) in Europe. The pathogenicity of C. fraxinea was demonstrated by field inoculations on young trees.
