Summary The alder yellows phytoplasma (ALY) was transmitted to the experimental host Catharanthus roseus (periwinkle) via dodder (Cuscuta odorata) bridges from naturally infected alder trees. The identity of the dodder‐transmitted phytoplasma has been confirmed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analyses of polymerase chain reaction (PCR)‐amplified ribosomal DNA.
