The impact of Melampsora rust on the growth of Salix burjatica ‘Korso’was assessed. Comparisons were made between untreated plants and those where the disease had been partially controlled using fungicides. Fungicides delayed the onset of the disease and its effects on growth. Leaf loss was reduced whilst shoot growth and dry matter yields increased. The effect of secondary organisms was also reduced resulting in lower levels of shoot death in the following season.
