In some Italian provenances of Melampsora populnea on Populus tremula from mountain zones, the presence of Melampsora pinitorqua was tested through teliospore germinability tests and sub‐sequent basidiospore inoculations. In this study the risk of twist rust epidemics in new planta‐tions is discussed.
