Fresh sapwood of Pinus strobus inhibited the growth of Armillaria osotyae. Compounds extracted from sapwood with ethyl acetate inhibited the fungus in bioassays. Pinosylvin monothyl ether as tentatively identified by thin layer chromatography and ultraviolet spectra was isolated from the extract and found to inhibit the growth of A. ostoyae .
