Investigations on virus contamination of soils in forests located in three federal states of West‐Germany have indicated that plant viruses are widely spread. From about one third of 284 samples mechanically transmissible viruses belonging to the potex‐, tobamo‐, tobacco necrosis‐ and potyvirus group were isolated by bait‐plant technique.
