Detection of leaf and shoot blight of poplars has been reported from India. The causal organism, Pollaccia elegans Serv. has been described as it occurs on Populus ciliata Wall. and P. nigra Linn. alongwith disease symptoms. During evaluation of diseases of poplars in Jammu and Kashmir State in May 1986, an outbreak of a very serious leaf and shoot blight of Populus ciliata Wall. and P. nigra Linn. was detected in Kamraj and Baramulla Forest Divisions. In the present publication the symptoms of the disease and the pathogen as it occurs on poplars in India were described.
