Is it possible to control diseases of woody plants by means of their mycorrhizae? The role of mycorrhizaae as biological detcrrents to soil borne diseases are reviewed from the literature and author's experiments in relation with nature of host plant, of mycorrlizal fungi, soils conditions. Possible mechanisms are discussed. Protective ability of some mycorrhizae appears as a potential, the expression of which depends of environmental factors, Mycorrhizae could be a biological mean to control soil borne diseases since we have a better ecological knowledge of their relationship with biotic components in the soil.
