Etiologic of shoot dieback of young larches in the subalpine zone. II. Abiotic causes . Wet and cool wcatlier during season postpones lignification of die youngest shoots, and effects of early frost causes them to die off. Strong sudden snow gliding (mainly slab avalanche and other avalanches) causes epidermis injuries with subsequent increased transpiration, depending on the degree of metamorphosis of snow crystals.
