Structural changes in cells affected by the fungus C. fimbriata , involving the cell wall, cytoplasm and plastids were investigated. In the necrotic tissues a high number of fat drops was observed. The progress of hyphae of the fungus in poplar clones differing in their resistance depended on the presence of a cork layer, tannins and starch content.
