Abstract Selective media for the assay of Heterobasidion annosum (Fr.) Bref. In fine roots. The behaviour of four Heterobasidion annosum strains on several selective media containing orthophenylphenol and antibiotics was recorded. The media were tested for selectivity by reisolation of the fungus from artificially infected and contaminated root segments. The following medium is recommended for the assay of H. annosum in fine roots: Orthophenylphenol 50 mg/l, Streptomycinsulphate 100 mg/l in water agar.
