Characterization of two Norway spruce clone groups differing in smoke resistance by treatment of needle extracts with hydrogen peroxide When needles free from injurious smoke components were used for extraction during February‐March 1982, only extracts from relatively resistant grafts in a fast reaction with peroxide yielded a violet compound(s). Perhaps the described method could help to judge the relative resistance to noxious smoke components of Norway spruce. With respect to this result the meaning of peroxidase activity in needle metabolism is discussed.
