The study of water relations of poplar clones resistant and susceptible to Melampsora larici‐populina Kleb. using an air tunnel and a porometer have confirmed the considerable variability of poplars in rate of transpiration and time of stomatal opening. The differences between resistant and susceptible poplar clones were rather in the functioning of stomata than in their structures and frequency.
