The history and occurrence of the so‐called bacterial canker of ash ( Fraxinus excelsior ), caused by Pseudomonas syringae subsp. savastanoi pv. fraxini 1 are outlined. Symptoms of the disease and other forms of damage, such as Nectria‐canker, damage by the ash bark beetle, Leperisinus varius and twig‐mining by the ash bud moth, Prays fraxnella are discussed in detail.
