By adding oidia of Peniophora gigantea to the lubricating oil of a chainsaw, stumps were automatically inoculated as the trees were felled. An experiment on Pinus sylvestris showed that direct chainsaw inoculation gave comparable results in terms of abundance of P. gigantea and control of Fames annosus , as conventional inoculation of stumps after felling.
