Studies of wood anatomy on trees damaged by site factors in central Hamburg . Tree ring analysis and histometry were used to determine the cause of death of city trees. They showed a decrease in ring width after 1954 and an increase in the axial and radial conducting tissues. The cause was adduced to a restriction in water supply when the site was covered with flagstones.
