11 rhesus and 10 bonnet macaque ♀♀ were observed for five months to evaluate differences between the two species in patterns of social behavior with non‐kin. Data were collected during 15 min focal animal follows, twice weekly for each ♀. Both durations and frequencies of social interactions with non‐kin were evaluated. Bonnet ♀♀ approached, contacted, embraced and huddled with others more often than rhesus ♀♀ did. There were no differences in other intimate social behaviors, however. The data presented here suggest that although bonnet ♀♀ may contact others more frequently, they are not necessarily more affiliative than rhesus ♀♀ are.
