The interspecific relations between two potentially competing fish species were investigated experimentally. Three equally sized individuals of each Blicca bjocrkna and Gymnoccphalus cernua were kept both alone and together and exposed to two conditions of food‐supply. Distribution in space, aggregation, and aggression were recorded. Blicca associated with Gymnocephalus . Deprivation of food led to more interspecific aggression Blicca and to more intraspecific aggression in Gymnocephalus .
