Mischlaute beim Rotfuchs (Vulpes vulpes L.)

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund der oszillographischen und klangspektrographischen Auswertung von Tonbandaufnahmen von Lauten des Rotfuchses werden folgende Mischlaute beschrieben: a) Das Knurrbellen als Überlagerung von Knurren und Bellen. b) Das Knurrwinseln als Überlagerung von Knurren und Drohwinseln. c) Das Winselkeckern (1) als Überlagerung von Keckem und Unterlegenheitswinseln und (2) von Keckern und Drohwinseln. Die physikalischen Eigenschaften der Laute werden durch Abbildungen dargestellt. Die Beziehungen der sich überlagernden Lautformen sowie der Mischlaute zum Verhalten werden dargelegt. Auf Grund dieser Untersuchungen wird geschlossen, daß die Überlagerung von zwei Lautformen beim Fuchs auf zwei Wegen zustande kommen kann: durch Mischung von Lauten geringer Intensität, ohne Funktionserweiterung sowie durch Mischung ritualisierter Laute mit Funktionserweiterung. Summary On the basis of oscillographic and spectrographic analyses of tape recordings of red fox sounds the following mixed vocalizations are described: a) the growling bark (Knurrbellen) as a superposition of growling and barking. b) the growling whine (Knurrwinseln) as a superposition of growling and the threatening whine. c) whining scolding (Winselkeckern) as a superposition (1) of scolding and inferiority whining and (2) of scolding and threat whining. The physical properties of the sounds are shown in the figures. The relations of the component vocalizations and of the mixed vocalizations to the behavior are described. From these investigations it is concluded that in foxes the superposition of two vocalization forms can occur in two ways: through the mixing of vocalizations of low intensity, without amplification of function, and through the mixing of ritualised vocalizations with increase in the information communicated.
