On the Behaviour of the South American Condor (Vultur gryphus L.)

Summary The comfort behaviour and sexual behaviour of two pairs of South American Condors in captivity are described. A comparison is made with the closely related Californian Condor. The behaviour of these two species is very similar, and as they are also very much alike morphologically, they are considered as belonging to the same genus Vultur L. Zusammenfassung Körperpflege und Geschlechtsverhalten zweier gefangengehaltener Paare des südamerikanischen Kondors werden beschrieben und mit dem des nahverwandten kalifornischen Kondors verglichen. Beide Arten stehen einander im Verhalten und Aussehen so nahe, daß es geboten scheint, sie ins gleiche Genus Vultur L. zu stellen.
